Abstract
"Intellect" as one of the human perceptual powers has many capacities, the most important of which is its source and instrumental role in the production of knowledge. The Holy Quran has directly and indirectly addressed its capacities and invited human beings to understanding (ta_qil). In the verses of the Holy Quran, the word reason and its derivatives are used directly and with a corresponding implication, and indirectly and with an implied implication, words such as heart (qalb), lubb, fuād and with functions such as thinking, obtain understanding (tafaqqaha), intelligence, insight and tact has been used. These words in the Holy Qur'an are in fact synonymous or related to the epistemological functions of the reason. This paper tries to analyze and study the source and instrumental functions of reason, especially in the field of religious science and Islamic humanities, by using the rational and narrative method and emphasizing the verses of the Holy Quran. According to the verses of the Holy Quran, the intellect, as a source of knowledge, has an independent epistemological role in the production of religious science and has an instrumental and non-independent function.
